In most countries, ideas, concepts, discoveries, scientific theories, study practices, organizational operational sequences, mathematical methods and aesthetic creations of form are not patentable. Furthermore, patents shall not be granted for: new varieties of plants (new varieties of plants, however, may be protected under a plant variety protection act) or animal breeds, as well as diagnostic methods or methods for therapy or surgery practised on the human or animal body. (cf. Article 2 LPI or Article 52 para. 4 EPC).
